To deal with the Social Security deficit, the Court of Auditors makes several proposals. She particularly recommends the end of compensation for work stoppages of less than eight days, which could save 470 million euros.
What if sick leave of less than eight days was no longer reimbursed? This is one of the shocking solutions proposed by the Court of Auditors to deal with the Social Security deficit. The objective is to stem the surge in sick leave, which has cost Social Security 12 billion euros in 2022. A figure up 56% since 2017. According to the Court of Auditors, the end of compensation work stoppages of less than eight days could save 470 million euros.
Another proposed measure is the establishment of a public order waiting day, that is to say not covered by Social Security and not compensated by companies. The Court of Auditors also proposes to increase the waiting period. This uncompensated period, three days today, could increase to seven days. This avenue is currently being studied by the government. In total, the expected savings for health insurance could vary from 500 million to one billion euros per year.
