A large strike action took place in pharmacies on Thursday May 30. More than 70% of them are closed. Professionals are demonstrating in particular against drug shortages.

Many pharmacies closed. In Lille, patients had to visit several pharmacies to find the one open. In Hauts-de-France, 90% of pharmacies kept the curtain down, but the strike was also followed everywhere in France. Thursday, May 30, pharmacists demonstrate in the street at the call of their unions. The shortage of medicines is one of the reasons for their anger. “We can not no longer do our job”, deplores a pharmacist in the Alpes-Maritimes, who denounces an “unacceptable” situation.

According to the unions, 300 pharmacies went out of business last year, or nearly one every day. This unprecedented strike is relatively supported by patients, who understand the pharmacists’ demands. Around thirty gatherings are planned throughout France, including in Paris.
