In Pakistan and India, it was over 50 degrees in the shade on Wednesday May 29. The region is facing an extreme heat wave that could last several weeks.
Under more than 50 degrees, the Indian capital is suffocating. In the streets, everyone is trying to protect themselves from the heat. Some, like delivery men, have no choice but to work in the dungeon. Faced with record temperatures, the authorities announced the closure of all schools in New Delhi. This heat wave is one of the most intense on record. It also affects the rest of Asia such as Pakistan. Due to frequent power cuts, it’s impossible to keep your house cool.
So to cool off, many locals come to swim in the river. “We are here to bathe and protect ourselves from this extreme heat. The canal water is our only solution to stay cool”, deplores a man. According to weather forecasts, the heat wave affecting several regions of Asia could last for several more weeks.
