In Sweden, one of the major issues of the European electoral campaign is the question of living together. Most political parties are calling for less immigration and a rethinking of the integration model.
Rinkeby is a suburb of Stockholm and one of the poorest towns in Sweden, with more than 80% of residents from immigration. A bridge was to connect it to a richer neighboring district, but the construction site is bogged down, the far right has opposed the project for years. The far-right party wants Europe to lock its borders. An entrepreneur of Palestinian origin saw the neighborhood change. The police station has closed, and there are fewer social programs for young people. With crime rising sharply, Rinkeby has become for some the symbol of the failure of the integration model.
On the left, the social democratic opposition wants to invest more to better welcome those who arrive legally in Sweden. The center-right government wants to align itself with European and international law criteria. There is no longer any question of offering more generous asylum conditions than other Member States.
