Change at the Fenottes. Olympique Lyonnais announced the departure of its coach Sonia Bompastor on Wednesday May 29. Arriving on the bench in spring 2021, Sonia Bompastor, who wore the club jersey for six seasons in her playing career, led her team to three French championship titles (2022, 2023, 2024), a Coupe de France (2023) and, above all, to the eighth Champions League in its history (2022). His assistant coach Camille Abily, who has been on the staff for five years, is also leaving the club.

“Arriving in 2006, two years after the creation of the OL women’s section, Sonia Bompastor and Camille Abily played a leading role within the club and left their mark on the history ofe the women’s team (…) The entire club would like to warmly thank Sonia Bompastor and Camille Abily (…) for their dedication throughout their years at the club”writes OL in its press release.

In the process, Chelsea formalized its recruitment for four years, starting this summer. “Sonia’s vision, philosophy and winning mentality made her a remarkable candidate. She is a world-class coach with success at the highest level”, enthuses Paul Green, the club’s general manager. In London, Bompastor will have the difficult task of succeeding Emma Hayes, who left to take the reins of the American selection after twelve years at the head of the Blues.
