The mayor of Les Républicains d’Étampes (Essonne), Franck Marlin, was placed in police custody for favoritism, franceinfo learned on Tuesday May 28 from the Evry prosecutor, confirming information from the Parisian.

According to information from franceinfo, the investigation is open for “breach of trust”, “illegal taking of interest” and “attack on the freedom of access to the public market”. Franck Marlin’s custody can last up to 48 hours.

This is the second police custody of the mayor of Etampes in three months. On February 28, the elected official was in fact placed in police custody on suspicion of “embezzlement of public funds”. At the origin of this procedure, a report from the Anticor association on the budgetary situation of the city which followed the opening of an investigation by the Evry-Courcouronnes public prosecutor’s office in 2021. The elected official had been released without prosecution at this stage.
