Belgium commits to delivering 30 F-16 fighter jets to kyiv by 2028

This agreement was signed on the occasion of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to the country.

Belgium is committed toUkrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to provide him with 30 F-16 fighter jets by 2028, Tuesday May 28, in order to support kyiv in the war with Russia. The Prime Minister “Alexander De Croo and I signed a bilateral long-term security and support agreement between Ukraine and Belgium”reported the Ukrainian president on the social network “will happen already this year”he said.

Belgium’s commitment to delivering these 30 combat aircraft was revealed a little earlier by Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib, speaking to Bel-RTL. “We hope that there will be delivery starting at the end of this year”, qualified the minister. The Ukrainian leader is traveling for a few hours to Belgium to sign a bilateral security agreement. He will then meet the Belgian king Philippe.

At midday, Volodymyr Zelensky will also go to the Melsbroek military airport, near Brussels (Belgium), where he will meet F-16 pilots. Since February 2022, Belgium has promised to help Ukraine to the tune of 1.2 billion euros, including 916 million planned for 2024 alone, according to Belgian Defense Minister Ludivine Dedonder. There Belgium joined a coalition made up of the Netherlands, Denmark and Norway last year to supply these fighter planes to kyiv.
