An 18-year-old young man arrested after stabbing a teacher in a high school in Maine-et-Loire

An 18-year-old high school student was arrested on Monday, May 27, after stabbing a teacher in his high school in Chemillé-en-Anjou (Maine-et-Loire), the prefect said in a joint press release, the public prosecutor and the director of departmental national education services. The victim benefits “functional protection today”the Nantes rectorate, which provides this protection for teachers, told franceinfo on Monday.

Unknown to the police, the high school student was arrested “very quickly” after the events and taken into custody, authorities said. “The victim suffered a non-life-threatening facial injury”according to the same source.

The events took place around 9:45 a.m. at the Hyrôme high school, which accommodates 160 students. After the attack, the suspect quickly left the scene, passing through a window and abandoning his weapon, according to authorities.
