Dozens of people died after the Israeli strike on a camp for displaced Palestinians in Rafah on Sunday May 26, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health. The Israeli army claims to have struck a Hamas compound.

In the night, screams and panic. Part of a camp for displaced people was burned by bombings. Men, women and children are extracted from the chaos of their makeshift shelters made of wooden and sheet metal tents. The first witnesses speak of a sudden explosion. “We were praying and our children were sleeping when suddenly we heard a loud noise and fire all around”testifies a refugee.

The Israeli army admits having struck the complex but the IDF does not provide further details. She claims that the strike was carried out “against legitimate targets under international law and with precise munitions”. According to the Israeli army, the attack targeted two leaders of the movement in the West Bank, Yacine Rabia and Khaled Nagar.
