(Paris) Quebecer Gabriel Diallo came from behind, but he still lost in five sets of 7-5, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 1-6, 7-5 against to the Japanese Kei Nishikori on Sunday during the first round of the Roland-Garros tournament.
Diallo had 14 aces and committed six double faults during this long confrontation. He managed eight breaks in 14 attempts.
Diallo had 10 aces and just one double fault in the final three sets, finding his rhythm after losing the second set tiebreaker.
Nishikori made an ace and made two double faults. The Japanese obtained six breaks in 18 opportunities.
Diallo was the only Canadian to play a match on the first day of this major tournament in France.
Quebecer Félix Auger-Aliassime and Ontarian Denis Shapovalov will be in action on Monday, as will Quebecer Leylah Fernandez and Ontarian Bianca Andreescu.
