Saturday May 25, violent clashes pitted supporters of Olympique Lyonnais (OL) against those of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the Fresnes-lès-Montauban toll booth (Pas-de-Calais). A general brawl broke out shortly before the Coupe de France final. Around a hundred supporters of both teams came to blows. Around thirty supporters were injured, as well as eight police officers. A bus was set on fire under the toll gate, and four others were damaged.
The authorities had defined two separate routes, although the match was classified as high risk. Late, the Lyonnais finally encountered the Parisian supporters. In a press release, OL accuses the authorities of a clear error of direction. A way of giving up, according to a police unionist. “Supporters must be able to meet at any given moment without necessarily coming to blows”, estimates Julien Soir, National Police Alliance delegate of Hauts-de-France. A judicial investigation was opened to determine responsibility for the violence.
