Six NATO countries bordering Russia will erect “a wall of drones”

(Vilnius) The six NATO member countries neighboring Russia have agreed to erect a “drone wall” to defend their borders against “provocations”, the Lithuanian government announced on Friday.

“This is a completely new thing, a wall of drones stretching from Norway to Poland. The goal is to use drones and other technologies to protect our borders,” Lithuanian Interior Minister Agne Bilotaite told the BNS news agency.

She spoke after discussions with her counterparts from the other Baltic states, Estonia and Latvia, as well as Finland, Norway and Poland.

“It is not only about physical infrastructure, surveillance systems, but also drones and other technologies, which would allow us to protect ourselves against provocations from hostile countries and prevent smuggling,” he said. she added.

In addition to deploying drones to monitor the border, these countries would use systems to intercept enemy drones.

Mme Bilotaite did not give a timetable for the project, which was approved due to current security concerns in the region amid Russia’s war in Ukraine.
