Mélanie La Couture succeeds Madeleine Careau at the Montreal Symphony Orchestra (OSM)

After an international recruitment process, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra found at its door the rare gem to succeed Madeleine Careau, who will leave her position as CEO at the end of June, after almost 25 years.

The OSM will now be led by Mélanie La Couture, until now president and CEO of the Montreal Heart Institute. Mélanie La Couture is very far from being unknown at the OSM where she worked for eleven years to ultimately occupy, from 2007 to 2013, the position of Chief Operating Officer, that is to say number 2 in the administration.

The beginning of the 2010s at the OSM remains very positively remembered, a very lively period, mobilized around the projects of Kent Nagano. Conversely, the two or three years following the departure of Madame La Couture ended in a period of turbulence with several major departures of important executives.

The manager, who holds a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from the University of Western Ontario, then reoriented herself in the health sector at the Montreal Heart Institute in 2013, first as general director of the Foundation, then, for the last seven years, as a member of the board of directors and president and CEO.

Mélanie La Couture was chosen by a recruitment committee created by the OSM board of directors and supported by an executive search firm. The committee highlighted the “demonstrated qualities of unifier, the extensive expertise in philanthropic development and the well-articulated vision of the future of the orchestra” of Madame La Couture, who will take office in the month of July.
