You will have to avoid the Île-aux-Tourtes and Papineau-Leblanc bridges this weekend due to major obstacles. Significant congestion is also expected on a portion of Highway 13, in Laval, where maintenance work will continue over the weekend.
This was indicated Thursday by the Mobilité Montréal committee, responsible for coordinating major works in the metropolitan region. First, the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge will have to be completely closed during the night from Thursday to Friday, then during the entire weekend of May 24 to 27.
The reason: a new lane configuration will be put in place on May 27 on Highway 40, near the bridge, which should make it possible to maintain two lanes in the direction most used during rush hour. The measure had been ruled out in recent months due to lack of space on the site.
Two of the three lanes therefore went permanently towards Vaudreuil-Dorion due to “periods of congestion having been greater” towards this municipality.
In short, the entire sector risks being more congested, say the authorities, who favor public transport by taking advantage of the free services still existing on certain train and bus routes. However, the toll will be suspended in both directions on Highway 30 during the weekend. Access to Senneville Road will be maintained for the local population.
Further north, the Papineau-Leblanc bridge linking Montreal to Laval will also have to be completely closed in both directions for the entire weekend. The structure, which is continuing its makeover, can once again accommodate heavy trucks since Friday, the replacement of the stays having been completed.
In Laval, exit 12 of Autoroute 13-north, leading to Notre-Dame Boulevard, will be blocked again this weekend. It will still be possible to take a detour via exit 15, towards Highway 440.
Partial closures will also be expected on this highway between the Louis-Bisson bridge and the same exit 12. During the three nights of the weekend, three lanes heading north will be closed, then one during the day on Saturday and finally, two Sundays.
Furthermore, the contraflow traffic announced on the Bonaventure Expressway will be in place from Monday, until August 15, between Peel Basin and the Victoria Bridge. We plan to maintain two lanes per direction.
Still on the island of Montreal, Marcel-Laurin Boulevard will have to be closed in both directions between Décarie Boulevard and Saint-Louis Street, from Saturday 5 p.m. to Sunday 11 a.m.
Finally, notice to users of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM): the latter will be closed Saturday and Sunday at 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. due to a “systems update”. Bus shuttles will be in place to ensure the connection between Brossard and downtown Montreal during this period.
