The history of the struggles of Quebecers provides an essential and dynamic framework for a museum project.
The thread that runs through the four volumes of my history of ideas in Quebec essentially reveals this fact. We see that history has placed Quebecers in a condition where they had no choice to fight, to debate, to fight. Battles of discovery, of existence, of maintenance, of doubt, of affirmation…
We were able to make this condition the pretext for a lyrical and epic destiny. This lyricism and this epic confirm, beyond its mannerisms, the recognition of an essential starting point: rolling up your sleeves, raising your arms, finding the words. We can say as we have been able to say what we want about this reality, but it is first important to see without qualms that we could not not fight.
No matter the pride, no matter the indignation, no matter the memory, adversities have been in control, choices and emancipations have presented themselves.
The submissions hid the resistances while making them possible, if not necessary. The memory of submission has erased that of resistance.
