On Monday, May 20, the International Criminal Court (ICC) requested arrest warrants against Benyamin Netanyahu and several Hamas leaders. In the evening, France provided, via the Quai d’Orsay, its support for the institution.

“France supports the International Criminal Court (ICC), its independence and the fight against impunity in all situations,” this is the reaction of French diplomacy to the arrest warrants requested, Monday May 20, by the ICC against Benyamin Netanyahu and Hamas leaders. The conduct of the war in Gaza is called into question by the ICC prosecutor. Benyamin Netanyahu and his Minister of Defense are notably accused of mass murders directed against civilians and of organizing a famine in the Palestinian enclave.

These accusations are rejected by the Israeli Prime Minister. “I reject with disgust the equivalence that the prosecutor established between a democratic state like Israel and the bands of Hamas assassins, it is a total inversion of reality,” did he declare. Joe Biden called “scandalous” the procedure against Benjamin Netanyahu. For its part, Germany pointed out the impression of a false equivalence between the Israeli leaders and those of Hamas.
