What will happen in Iran? Ebrahim Raïssi, the President of Iran and his Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, died in the crash of their helicopter on Sunday, May 19, in the northwest of Iran. “The president’s helicopter was 50 years old”underlines Bernard Hourcade, geographer specializing in Iran and research director at the CNRS. “The accident theory is 99.999%”, he asserts. An accident which provokes many reactions and questions, especially since Iran is the enemy of Israel. But according to Bernard Hourcade, Israel is not responsible for the death of the Iranian president. “It’s not today that Israel is going to play a little game of assassination”he judges.
An opinion shared by Aïda Tavakoli, founder of the We are Iranian students association. “President Raïssi was a victim of the isolation and diplomacy carried out by this Islamic regime of terror and destabilization”, she specifies. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, a real power figure in the country, intends to ensure the continuity of political life. If the vice-president took over the interim from his predecessor, new elections will take place in 50 days. “The attempt to overthrow power has been completely barricaded, because power is held by the guide Ali Khamenei”however, believes Aïda Tavakoli.
