(Kyiv) Two men were killed in bombings in southern Ukraine on Monday, regional authorities said, and several other parts of the country were targeted by a nighttime drone attack.
“A resident of Kherson was killed by Russian bombings,” and another injured Monday morning, regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin said on Telegram.
The southern city of Kherson, on the banks of the Dnieper River, is regularly targeted by Russian bombings. It had been occupied for several months by the Russian army in 2022 before its withdrawal in November of the same year to the other side of the river, each side now controlling a bank.
In the Zaporizhia region, a man died after a strike on a village near the front, according to regional governor Ivan Federov.
The Ukrainian Air Force also indicated on Monday that it had shot down 29 drones launched by Russia during a new night attack.
“All 29 Iranian-designed Shahed 131/136 drones, launched from the Russian Kursk region and southern Russia, were destroyed, according to the Air Force.
She also mentioned an Iskander ballistic missile firing in the Kharkiv region (North-East), where Russian forces have been carrying out a ground offensive for ten days, without specifying whether this missile was shot down.
Kyiv is asking the West for more air defense systems to protect this region bordering Russia, which is regularly the target of bombings, like last Sunday with Russian strikes which killed 12 civilians, according to a latest report.
Drones launched overnight by Russia were shot down in the Ukrainian regions of Odessa and Mykolaiv (South), Poltava (center) and Lviv (Northwest), according to the Air Force.
In the Mykolaiv region, a woman was slightly burned during a fire caused by falling debris from one of the 19 drones shot down in this area, regional governor Vitaly Kim said on Telegram.
Russian forces target regions and towns in Ukraine far from the front almost daily in attacks with drones and guided missiles, which particularly target energy infrastructure and cause power outages.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Energy indicated on Telegram that this Monday “restrictions may be imposed for industrial and residential subscribers in all regions” of Ukraine, due to “the lack of electricity in the energy system after the attacks Russians.
It specifies that an “emergency supply of electricity has already been carried out from Romania, Slovakia and Poland”.
