Erwan Balanant, MoDem deputy for Finistère and president of the commission of inquiry into sexist and sexual violence in cinema, audiovisual, live entertainment, fashion and advertising, was the guest of “8h30 franceinfo”, Sunday May 19. Objectives of this commission, reform of public broadcasting, European elections… He answered questions from Victoria Koussa and Jules de Kiss.
Gender-based and sexual violence: “Awareness is not there”
“If awareness was sufficient, we would no longer have sexist and sexual violence in our country”, remarks Erwan Balanant. The president of the commission of inquiry into gender-based and sexual violence in the National Assembly welcomes “awareness work” led by actress Judith Godrèche, but believes that “It’s been years and years that in cinema, in French cinema in particular, there has been no awareness”. He also extends this observation to other artistic circles, including “the living show”, “audiovisual, fashion and advertising”.
The MP, who made clips, explains that his commission of inquiry “is not a court”. “We are not prosecutors. Our role is to study the system as a whole and not point out individual responsibilities”.

Public audiovisual: “A merger seems premature and above all hasty to us”
A committee of the National Assembly voted on Thursday for the merger of public broadcasting (France Télévisions, INA and Radio France). The MoDem elected officials voted against. Erwan Balanant explains that he is disturbed by the advanced schedule, which foresees a merger in 2026: “The merger with a date set like that, quite close, seems premature and above all hasty”. On the other hand, he considers “that a holding company can be an interesting tool”.
“We are not in favor of the merger being mentioned in the text. It was not what was initially planned, we were on a holding company.”

European elections: “We are far from being relaxed”
The majority list for the European elections on June 9 is credited with 16% of voting intentions according to a latest poll, but Erwan Balanant remains confident, “because we are far from the bottom. 16% is still a good number and we will continue”says the MoDem deputy.
The debate scheduled for Thursday, May 23 between Jordan Bardella and Gabriel Attal, is “a good idea”according to Erwan Balanant, who believes that the head of the National Rally list needs “let us tell him again certain realities about his program”. The MoDem deputy says he does not “to understand“what is the RN program: “it’s Frexit or it’s not Frexit ? It’s the exit from the euro, it’s not the exit from the euro ?”asks Erwan Balanant.
