Caeli McKay won gold in the 10-metre platform grand final on Saturday at the Canadian Diving Trials in Windsor.
For his part, Quebecer Cédric Fofana won gold on the one-meter springboard.
McKay was in the lead after three dives, but struggled in the fourth. She finished the qualifying round with 324.00 points, good for fourth place. His first dive allowed him to obtain 81.00 points.
McKay came back strong for the grand final and finished with 501.05 points.
“It was the most grueling day of competition of my career, both mentally and physically, I experienced a roller coaster of emotion today (Saturday), said McKay. I’m very proud of myself and can’t wait to see what’s to come! »
With his first place finish, McKay met all of Diving Canada’s Olympic qualification criteria.
The federation will submit its name to the Canadian Olympic Committee and the athletes sent to the Games will be announced in June.
Kate Miller finished in second place with 484.70 points and Elaena Dick rounded out the podium with 475.25 points.
Fofana won gold in the one-meter springboard after finishing fourth the day before in the three-meter event.
Fofana started her day with a dive which earned her 74.40 points, to finish the event with 566.20 points.
Tazman Abramowicz took silver with 537.78 points, while Quebecer Thomas Ciprick finished just behind at 537.43 points.
The competition ends Sunday in Windsor, with the men’s 10-meter and women’s three-meter events.
