“We must very quickly reconnect the threads of contacts and dialogue and this does not happen through video[conférence]s”declared Friday May 17 on franceinfo Philippe Gosselin, Les Républicains de la Manche deputy and president of the information mission on the institutional future of New Caledonia, about the situation in the archipelago.
“The situation is extremely tense and it will not be enough to snap your fingers for things to improve overnight”according to the deputy. “We must remember that we need firmness and that we cannot leave the territory under threat, but we must already reassure, calm, and that authority can be exercised”.
“People need to be able to see each other, talk to each other”adds Philippe Gosselin, who asks “an initiative, in particular from the Prime Minister, which would consist of going there”. According to the MP, “a certain number of other interlocutors have lost their legitimacy, starting with Gérald Darmanin, who, I think, is no longer the man for the job”.
