Event | A spring under the sign of honey

Still little known to the general public – although it is the oldest alcohol in the world – mead in all its forms is celebrated for a second time on the occasion of the Spring of Honey Wines and Spirits of Quebec, which will take place throughout the province from May 18 to 26.

A series of activities will be offered in meaderies as well as in certain public markets and grocery stores, including guided tours and tastings at participating producers (May 25 and 26), in addition to activities at the Grand Marché de Québec (the May 18 and 19).

Although the origin of the first honey alcohols dates back to China 7,000 years ago, mead is now resolutely modern and is available today in the form of wines, ready-to-drink cocktails and spirits – not to mention that its taste is strongly influenced by the different terroirs.

Also, we wanted to make the event coincide with World Bee Day, May 20, an opportunity for the Association of Mead and Honey Alcohol Producers of Quebec to launch the Fleurir le Québec initiative, a campaign which aims to raise public awareness of the importance of honey-producing flowers, plants, trees and shrubs.
