Queen Camilla has promised to no longer buy fur for her wardrobe, the animal rights organization Peta reported on Wednesday May 15, which welcomed it. Peta (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) says it received a letter from Buckingham Palace on this subject dated April 15. “In response to your request, I can confirm that Her Majesty will not be purchasing new fur clothing”states this letter from the palace. “This is accompanied by the Queen’s warmest wishes.”adds the text.

Contacted by AFP, Buckingham Palace did not comment. Camilla thus follows in the footsteps of Queen Elizabeth II, the mother of her husband Charles III, who stopped buying new fur clothes in 2019. Peta applauded Camilla “to be a true queen by standing alongside the 95% of Brits who also refuse to wear fur”.

“It is right and appropriate that the British monarchy reflects British values ​​by recognizing that fur has no place in our society”, added the organization. The king is known to be a defender of the environment and animal welfare. Charles III and Camilla, however, wore fur during the coronation ceremony on May 6, 2023, donning the ceremonial robes of George VI and Elizabeth II. Before the coronation, Peta offered to provide Charles III with fur-free robes free of charge.
