The four members of Last Train abandoned rock for a singular album, their third, called Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. “It’s a concept album through which we rewrote our entire repertoire in the style of film music, so it’s more of an exercise in style. And for that, we had the chance to collaborate with the Mulhouse Symphony Orchestra“, explains Jean-Noël Scherrer, guitarist and singer of the group.
Jean-Noël Scherrer and his three friends and accomplices, Timothée Gérard, Julien Peultier and Antoine Baschung, worked for almost two years on this slightly crazy project, and entirely self-produced, as usual. Released in April, the first title Heroin has accumulated more than 100,000 listens in one week.
“At the beginning of the song, there are the four members of the group, with vocals, while the rest of the album is rather instrumental. And the orchestra intervenes relatively late, at the end of the title. A flight which introduces what is in the album and which is much more orchestral, instrumental, a little epic too“, specifies Jean-Noël Scherrer.
This concept album is released accompanied by a mini-series produced by Julien Peultier, guitarist and “Monsieur images” of the group who filmed the entire process of creating this new opus. Julien, who also directs the group’s music videos, had already filmed a documentary of around forty minutes on the conception of their second album, The Big Picture, released in 2019.
Album which marks the beginning of the collaboration between the rockers and the Mulhouse Symphony Orchestra on the title The Big Picture. The orchestra will also accompany the group in 2022 on the title (20 min) How did we get there?
But fans of Last Train’s energetic rock can rest assured, after this “cinematic” interlude, the group will very quickly return to basics, as Jean-Noël confirms: “We haven’t put the guitars in the closet (…), we have already written and prepared a new album.”
