“Mad Max” and George Miller return to the Croisette with “Furiosa”

The fury Mad Max returns to the Croisette. Nine years later Mad Max Fury RoadGeorge Miller is back at the Cannes Film Festival with Furiosa: a Mad Max saga, Wednesday May 15. The film chronicles Furiosa’s early years. Actress Anya Taylor-Joy plays the main character, taking over the role played by Charlize Theron in 2015. Chris Hemsworth takes on the costume of a warlord in front of the Australian director’s camera. Judith Godrèche brings victims of sexual violence to the screen. Me toothe short film by Judith Godrèche, “which highlights the stories of victims of sexual violence”, will be presented during the opening ceremony of the Un certain regard selection on Wednesday. The actress and director wanted to give voice to those who testified to the violence suffered, after having herself denounced it to the Césars.

Time for competition. The first two films in competition for the Palme d’Or are presented on Wednesday. It is Rough diamondfirst feature film by French director Agathe Riedinger, dealing with reality TV, and The Young Woman with a Needleby Swede Magnus Von Horn, which tells the true story of a Danish caregiver who was tried at the beginning of the 20th century for having murdered 25 babies born out of wedlock.

A successful opening. The first Cannes evening was marked by the screening of Quentin Dupieux’s film, presented out of competition, The Second Act. Before that, Meryl Streep received an honorary Palme d’Or from the hands of a tearful Juliette Binoche during an opening ceremony hosted by Camille Cottin. Another great moment: Zaho’s takeover of Sagazan from Modern Loveby David Bowie, in front of the president of the jury, Greta Gerwig, who danced to this song in the film Frances Ha.
