On the road, more and more cyclists are equipping themselves with cameras to film the offenses of threatening and aggressive drivers on the road. An initiative that is authentic within the confines of a court.
Traffic violations. Dangerous behaviors. Incivility. Accidents. Several cyclists no longer hesitate to film themselves on the road to bring the behavior of drivers to justice. “If I ever have an accident: it will allow me to have proof. In the event of an attack, it will always allow me to have images” says a cyclist videographer.
The video is authentic in a courtroom. A driver filmed during an attack on a cyclist was sentenced to three years in prison in 2023, including one year. “When we manage to provide proof that there was an intention to hit the cyclist thanks to the camera, the motorist will be prosecuted for intentional violence having possibly resulted in death. In this case, the ‘motorist faces up to twenty years in prison’, details Michel Benezra, lawyer in road law and personal injury, also lawyer for the aforementioned victim. In 2023, 2,500 cyclists were seriously injured, 226 were killed.
