Falun red adorns Swedish houses

Whatever the season, it’s a color that catches the eye: the red of Scandinavian houses. In winter, it breaks the monotony of white landscapes. In summer, the light is bright. This traditional painting comes from Sweden. It’s called Falun Red. A French couple, Cindy and Corentin, have been living in Sweden for three years and decided to give their house a little facelift by repainting it. Obviously, the choice of color is not up for debate. “We’re going to follow the traditions, and then we dreamed so much about this red house. We’re improving our little corner of paradise”explains the couple.

This typically Swedish paint protects wood against moss and insects. The famous pigment comes from Falun, in central Sweden. An old copper mine has been exploited since the 17th century. The 50 kilometers of galleries can be visited. It is here that the famous red was born. The quarry still provides the raw material today. She is the only one authorized to manufacture and sell this tincture. The process can last several months.
