The Israeli candidacy for the Eurovision contest, the final of which takes place on Saturday May 11 in Sweden, is fueling numerous tensions in the context of the conflict between the Jewish state and Hamas. Thousands of protesters gathered in the streets of Malmö.
In her dressing room, the Israeli singer rehearses her song, to the boos of her own team. She prepares to face the whistles in a competition where she is at the heart of the tensions. Even in front of the performance hall, where the Eurovision final will take place on Saturday May 11, thousands of demonstrators called for a boycott. At the same time, a few streets away, other demonstrators brandished Israeli flags.
Reinforcements from other countries
Conflict even invites itself onto the stage, although it is supposed to be apolitical. Last Tuesday, the Swedish candidate wore a keffiyeh, symbol of Palestine, on his wrist. He was called to order. It was therefore in secret that other candidates took a position for Palestine during a press conference. Further protests are planned on the day of the final. Reinforcements of police officers, especially from Norway and Denmark, will supervise the event.
