Former investigating judge Renaud Van Ruymbeke died on Friday May 10. His name and his work are linked to several major political-financial issues. The Minister of Justice wanted to pay tribute to him.
The inflexible judge Renaud Van Ruymbeke, a magistrate often admired and sometimes criticized in the corridors of the Paris Courthouse, died on Friday May 10. 40 years of career, 40 years of stubborn work against corruption and dirty money. His name will remain associated with the most sensitive political-financial affairs and a man who will carry the spirit of independence of justice throughout his life.
“He was someone who was fair.”
Renaud Van Ruymbeke’s career is a list of sensitive and high-profile cases. There is, for example, the Urba file on the secret financing of the Socialist Party, the Taiwan frigate affair or even the investigations into Jérôme Cahuzac. The Minister of Justice praised the career of this pugnacious and discreet man. “He was someone who was just, who was uncompromising towards those who had not respected the law, he was not a vigilante”, said Éric Dupond-Moretti. He hung up his magistrate’s robe five years ago.
