On December 30, Vanessa Cosi flew aboard a Sunwing chartered plane to Mexico with a hundred Quebeckers. These have caused an uproar in the newspapers in Quebec and even internationally since Tuesday.

In a video now deleted from Instagram, Ms. Cosi swings to the beat of the music during an impromptu party on the Sunwing plane. The young woman wears smoked glasses to remain incognito and illegally smokes an electronic cigarette.

But several Quebec pilots recognized her face and immediately contacted the Journal to denounce her.

“It’s a scandal in our small community. We immediately saw that it was her. It damages our reputation. We have the lives of several people in our hands and we must keep the trust of the public, “thunders a pilot, who prefers to remain anonymous so as not to be associated with Ms. Cosi.

The images of the future pilot and the other revelers were published this week in articles for the Daily Mail UK, the New York Post and even TMZ.

Fired soon?

According to our information, Vanessa Cosi was taking flight training at the Lachute Aviation school. She would be at the end of her journey to become a professional pilot.

“Yes, she was studying here, but we don’t know if she will come back. It will depend on her return to Quebec whether she continues the training or not. We still haven’t made a decision yet, ”confirms François Vrana, director of Lachute Aviation.

How does he react when he sees one of his students vaping in mid-flight? Mr. Vrana declined to comment. “Not to mention his specific case, a pilot who breaks federal law such as the ban on smoking in planes risks serious penalties,” he admits.

In addition, a second passenger occupying a commercial pilot position was in the Sunwing flight which skidded. This is Isabelle Labrecque, who took part in the program Isle of Love. She would have Transport Canada certification as a pilot.

Isabelle Labrecque and Vanessa Cosi did not respond to interview requests from the Newspaper yesterday.

Big mistake

Mehran Ebrahimi, director of the International Observatory of Aeronautics and Civil Aviation, argues that Vanessa Cosi may never have a career as a pilot in the future due to her lack of judgment.

“The pilots have the lives of our families in their hands. Sometimes even by a hundred. Driving is a matter of technique, but a lot of discernment and judgment. I tell myself that people who make mistakes like that, they have no place in a commander’s seat on an airplane, ”says Ebrahimi.

For its part, the office of the Minister of Transport says that an investigation is underway on this subject and that “fines of up to $ 5,000 per violation could be imposed in the event of non-compliance with the rules”.
