Women make waves, third edition, it’s this Saturday in Bourail. An event which aims to attract new graduates in various disciplines. The event is sold out.
After a first edition in 2012, a second in 2022, Women Make Waves returns Saturday May 11 at the Néra in Bourail. Open to females from 7 years old, you can learn surfing, stand-up paddle, va’a, yoga, suspended dancing and dancehall.
“It is a desire on our part“, than to promote women’s surfing, explains Mathilde Martinson, president of the Big bananas surf club. “But it also comes from a little higher up: sports federations are looking to increase their female licensees. There are subsidies in this context.”
In this surf club, there are twenty to thirty licensees each year, out of eighty in total. “Our objective ? Parity would be idealhopes the organizer. Women often want to try, but not on their own. And these days allow you to be in a group, so that’s reassuring. There are those who are afraid, those who don’t feel capable… And in fact, everyone gets there and we enjoy it very quickly.“
“The good news is that we will normally have waves on Saturdayrejoices Mathilde Martinson. 80 women have registered, it’s full: it’s bad news for the public, but it’s a good thing. We need at least one supervisor for every three people, suitable boards, and for it to happen in good conditions, we cannot accommodate more people than that… Even if we continue to receive messages for a possible list waiting.”
