(Madrid) Australian actress Cate Blanchett will receive a lifetime achievement award at the San Sebastian Film Festival, which is being held this year from September 20 to 28 in the northern Spanish city, it was announced on Thursday organizers.
This festival, the most important in the Spanish-speaking world, will pay tribute to “one of the most important performers of contemporary cinema”, they indicated in a press release.
Cate Blanchett will also be the image of the festival on its posters.
Blanchett, 54, won two Oscars for her performances in Aviator by Martin Scorsese (2005) and Blue Jasmine by Woody Allen (2014). She has also won four Baftas and four Golden Globes.
Recognized as one of the major actresses of her generation, she has appeared throughout her career in big-budget films, such as Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull by Steven Spielberg, Thor from Marvel and The Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson.
But this theater enthusiast has also appeared in smaller productions, such as The Talented Mr. Ripley by Anthony Minghella and Aquatic life by Wes Anderson.
The 72e edition of the San Sebastian festival will open with the world premiere of the feminist remake Emmanuellea great success of erotic cinema of the 1970s, with Noémie Merlant in the title role.
