With just over a month to go before the European elections, politicians are stepping up their efforts to capture the youth vote. They are increasingly multiplying videos on the social network TikTok to achieve their goals.

TikTok is the favorite social network of young people. It is now also that of candidates for the European elections. The videos are short and direct. Murderous phrases rub shoulders with nightclub music. TikTok is now a way to make a name for yourself and appeal to younger voters. On the social network, the president of the RN, Jordan Bardella, is one of the most popular. He has 1.2 million subscribers. As with the other registered policies, there are few measures, but mainly staged images, against a background of urban music.

Capturing the attention of young people

Leïla Chaibi, MEP for La France insoumise, also captures the attention of young people on TikTok. According to her, this allows them “to be interested and then, later, to dig deeper and look at our proposals”. Others like Raphaël Glucksmann (PS – Place publique) denounces the platform and the use of data that the company could make of it. He decided to close his account.
