Event | On May 9, I buy local fashion

The Quebec fashion industry is mobilizing with the first edition of local fashion buying day, May 9, and relaunching the hashtag #MODESOLIDAIRE, a fashion initiative from the Metropolitan Fashion Cluster, MAD Shoppe, Retail Quebec and Investissement Quebec.

The goal of this day is to discover local Quebec designers and brands and to create a unifying movement in Quebec by supporting small and medium-sized fashion businesses. More than 70 brands and boutiques are participating in this day, including Elisa C-Rossow, Marigold, Katrin Leblond Design, Yoga Jeans, Pony, Veinage, Quartz Co., Belle et Rebelle, Everyday Sunday, Maguire, Womance and La Vie en Rose.

“It’s so important to encourage local and independent businesses like ours,” says Myriam Belzile-Maguire, co-founder of the Maguire shoe brand created with her sister in 2017. “We know that the economic context is difficult, but When you buy local, it helps create jobs in the fashion field, which was always my goal when I started my business, she says. When you buy online directly from a designer site, it makes all the difference, because there is no intermediary. »

The Marigold store

However, this craze has since died down and many creators are in difficulty. “The year 2023 was tragic for many businesses, and it is fundamental to remember how essential local purchasing is, we need your support, and wearing clothing from here is part of our culture. So on May 9, thank you for encouraging us! »
