A first female referee in the QMJHL

Referee Élizabeth Mantha continues to break down the taboos surrounding her profession, she who will become the first woman to occupy these functions in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).

The Courteau circuit announced the arrival of Mantha in its group of officials, for the second portion of the regular calendar, on Wednesday.

The sister of Anthony Mantha, forward for the Washington Capitals who once carried the colors of the Val-d’Or Foreurs in the QMJHL, already has several years of experience at various levels.

This season, she made her professional debut, specifically on October 29, when she took to the ice for an American League game. She was part of a group of 10 female referees who joined this circuit at the start of the current season.

The 31-year-old Longueuilloise has also officiated in the Quebec leagues, including the Quebec Under-18 AAA Hockey Development League, the Quebec Student Sport Network (RSEQ) and the Quebec AAA Junior Hockey League, but also at the international level, she who should go to the Olympic Games in Beijing, later in 2022.
