Several thousand people gathered on Saturday in the streets of Châteauroux (Indre) to pay tribute to Matisse. The 15-year-old was stabbed to death by a friend of the same age on April 27.

An immense and silent crowd like Châteauroux (Indre) had rarely experienced. 8,000 people gathered for the tribute in memory of Matisse, the 15-year-old teenager stabbed to death on April 27. In the front row, his family stays far from the microphones. In front of his old school, his teachers mourn the missing student. “I wish a lot of courage to his dad, to his mom”, said one of them. In the city, the apprentice cook and his family, restaurateurs, are very popular. “We all have someone around us who knows either Matisse or his parents”says a resident.

Among the local residents, some brought a drawing of an otter, the adolescent’s totem animal, which has become a symbol of the city. In Châteauroux, the population was shocked by the violence of the brawl. Matisse was killed by a teenager of Afghan origin of the same age. The police force remained discreet. The far-right activists did not disrupt the event, like the day before in front of the town hall. The family could speak on Tuesday May 7 at the stadium where the funeral should be celebrated. Matisse was a fan of the Châteauroux club, who also paid tribute to him on Saturday May 4.
