Chrysler will only launch electrics from 2028

(New York) The American brand Chrysler, a subsidiary of the Stellantis group, announced on Wednesday that it would only launch electric cars from 2028.

This new strategy will begin with a prototype unveiled at the CES tech show in Las Vegas, which will be available by 2025 and is currently called Chrysler Airflow.

“The Chrysler Airflow prototype represents the future direction of the Chrysler brand, offering insight into the dynamic design, advanced technologies and connectivity that will characterize the all-electric portfolio that we plan to offer by 2028,” said Chris Feuell, Chrysler brand manager, in a statement.

In particular, the car will offer tools in the passenger compartment “allowing each passenger to have their own experience” and to connect to their respective digital lives on various screens. It will be equipped with driver assistance systems and its battery should have a range of 560 to 645 kilometers.

Chrysler, founded in 1925, is thus entering, with a little delay, in the race for electric vehicles that the major American manufacturers are currently engaged in.

Fiat Chrysler unveiled an electric prototype named Chrysler Portal at CES on January 3, 2017.

After the GMC Hummer and the Cadillac Lyriq, General Motors is due to present the electric version of its popular Chevrolet Silverado pickup on Wednesday.

Ford for its part announced on Tuesday that in view of the strong demand, it would almost double the production capacities of the electric version of its F-150 pickup truck, the best-selling vehicle in the United States.

Bought in 2009 by Fiat when it was bankrupt, the manufacturer Chrysler has struggled since to go up the slope and only offers two vehicles in its catalog, Chrysler 300 and Chrysler Pacifica.

Stellantis, also parent company of Peugeot, Fiat, Opel or Dodge, plans to invest 30 billion euros by 2025 in its electrification, of which 15 to 20% will go into software.
