The Montreal Canadiens have signed a three-year entry contract with Swedish defender Adam Engström.
The agreement will be valid for the 2024-25 to 2026-27 seasons, the team said Friday.
Aged 20, Engström was drafted in the third round during the 2022 auction, while the Canadian chose him at 92e rank.
Last season, he played in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), recording four goals and 18 assists in 51 games with Ängelholm’s Rögle BK. He added four assists to his record in 15 playoff games.
Engström also wore the colors of Sweden at the 2023 World Junior Championship, which was presented in Halifax and Moncton.
He provided one goal and two assists in seven games during the tournament. Sweden lost to the United States in the bronze medal match.
