Denis Villeneuve, Patrick Huard and Michael MacMillan are added to the winners of the 2024 Canadian Screen Special Awards.
The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television announced the latest round of honorees on Wednesday, who will be recognized for “their outstanding contributions and achievements” during Canada Screen Week 2024, which will take place in Toronto from Sunday May 26 to Saturday May 1er June.
Denis Villeneuve’s “remarkable and multiple award-winning filmography has inspired not only Canadian audiences, but also all people around the world who have had the pleasure of discovering his fascinating universe,” says Tammy Frick, CEO of the Academy, in a press release.
The Quebec film director Dune, Blade Runner 2049 And Arrivalwhose “minutia and singularity of his images” are also highlighted, will be awarded the Academy’s “Icon” prize.
As for Patrick Huard, cited for having “seduced the public by embodying some of the most emblematic characters in the history of Canadian cinema”, he will receive the Earle-Grey prize given to a performer.
The Quebec actor and filmmaker is hailed as a “multi-talented artist who has distinguished himself both in front of and behind the camera”, and who has starred in “some of the country’s most lucrative films, including ‘Les Boys’ and comedy “Bon Cop Bad Cop””.
As for Michael MacMillan, Mr.me Frick notes that he helped “redefine the Canadian television industry” by leading Blue Ant Media, one of Canada’s leading media production and broadcast companies. Mr. MacMillan will be presented with the Industry Leadership Award.
