According to experts, we should prohibit the use of screens for children under 3 years old, then allow their use to varying degrees depending on age. The government is currently studying the issue.

How to keep children away from screens? An expert report suggests banning them for children under 3 years old and strongly limiting them to children under 6 years old, and if possible within the family. As for teenagers, the report suggests waiting 11 years for a cell phone without Internet. From 13 years old, smartphones would be accepted but without access to social networks. They would be accessible from the age of 15, under the supervision of parents. “It will have escaped no one’s notice that digital technology is invading public and private space, with deleterious effects on concentration and sleep”warns Doctor Amine Benyamina, addiction psychiatrist.

Conclusive tests

Living without screens is possible. Several municipalities such as Besançon offered it for 10 days. A difficult but satisfying experience. “Now I read more and go outside more”, explains a middle school student. The government must now rule on the use of these screens at school and in the private sphere.
