The Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, on Tuesday rejected the idea that the boss of Santé Québec, Geneviève Biron, be questioned in Parliament. It is he, and not the latter, who will answer questions from opposition deputies, he promises.
“It will make me happy. I will answer,” declared Minister Dubé during the question period.
Bill 15 through which the Agency was created precisely provided that the minister “does not evade his responsibilities towards the National Assembly”, he recalled.
As for Mme Biron, she “has just arrived” and is going to do a “tour of all the teams”, he said without specifying whether she could address the elected officials after that.
The Quebec Solidaire MP Vincent Marissal had asked him to commit to ensuring that the president and chief executive officer (PCD) of Santé Québec and its vice-president, Frédéric Abergel, would come and answer questions from elected officials in the parliamentary committee before their mandate begins.
“The health network is $60 billion, 300,000 employees. Biron has 1,000 employees, it’s not quite the same thing,” he said. The MP also said he had “many questions” to ask Ms.me Biron on the risks of conflicts to which she is exposed.
On Monday, when announcing her appointment, the new PCD also committed to making herself available to answer questions from the media during her mandate. “I think we’re going to be extremely transparent,” she said. “I expect us to communicate a lot. […] We will communicate our results. Then, through all of that, of course, we will talk with the journalistic community. »
