An online petition was launched on April 25 to denounce the reinstatement of a medical student convicted of sexual assault at the Limoges University Hospital (Haute-Vienne), reports France Bleu Limousin. The petition gathered more than 22,000 signatures on the evening of Tuesday April 30.

This 26-year-old man was found guilty on March 19 by the Tours criminal court of sexual assault between 2017 and 2020 on two former comrades. Following this conviction, he was provisionally suspended by the hospital. But the Limoges administrative court suspended the university hospital’s decision and the student was able to return to the oncology department where he was doing his internship.

Reintegration deemed “inadmissible”

The authors of the petition say they are scandalized by this reinstatement. They judge the “extremely worrying situation”. They warn of the fact that the young man, at the end of his internship, “could become an intern in any of the university hospitals in mainland and overseas France from the next school year”. After the decision of the administrative court, the students say “in danger, ridiculed, and stunned” faced with the impunity of their colleague.

On the CHU campus, students judget “inadmissible” the reinstatement of this man. “We must not substitute justice, but he admitted, he was convicted, I don’t see why he continues” his internship, says a student interviewed by France Bleu Limousin.

The president of the University of Limoges, Isabelle Klock-Fontanille, assures that a disciplinary procedure will indeed take place at the university. But not before mid-May, specifies the president, time to put together the file.
