“We must distinguish the use of social networks from the use of educational digital technology”, assures Tuesday April 30 on France Inter Nicole Belloubet, Minister of National Education and Youth, while a report of experts, appointed in January by Emmanuel Macron, must submit its report on the use of screens among children . These experts recommend in particular prohibiting the use of screens for children under 3 years old and mobile phones for children under 11 years old.

The Minister of National Education is precisely pleading for a “digital break in middle school” which would consist of “leave your cell phone at the entrance” of the school establishment in order to avoid “the circulation of cell phones at all costs”. She judges this measure “materially possible” and calls for “totally regulate” the use of social networks and telephones among children.

However, Nicole Belloubet considers that we should not reject “a supported digital tool, that is to say with the teacher nearby, which measures learning and learning progress”. She judges “absurd to think that our future society will be without digital technology”.

“If the school does not work on the use of digital technology with children, then I believe that the school of tomorrow is a total failure.”

The Minister of National Education is also keen not to oppose “the digital book”. It also highlights the launch planned for this summer of a “major operation called ‘This summer, I’m reading'” and through which the government “will give books to CM2 students”.
