To better combat drug trafficking and the violence it generates, Éric Dupond-Moretti, the Minister of Justice, wishes to allow accomplices of criminal networks to benefit from a review of their sentence if they were to give information useful to the police.
With this measure, the Minister of Justice wishes to fight more effectively against organized crime, drug trafficking and serial score-settling. The creation of a new repentant status should allow an accomplice who provides information enabling the dismantling of criminal networks to have his sentence revised. A status created 10 years ago in France
The status of repentant or collaborator of justice was created 10 years ago in France. But it still remains limited and little used. Only 42 people and their loved ones are part of the program. To benefit from it, you must have attempted to commit an offense without having directly participated in it. The text could be extended to perpetrators of criminal acts, as in Italy, where the words of repentants are essential to fight against the mafia. The government also wants to create a national prosecutor’s office to fight against organized crime, based on the model of the fight against terrorism.
