A distressed owner began a hunger strike to raise awareness about her situation. Since last September, its tenants have no longer paid the rent, being in a situation of excessive debt, and they refuse to leave the accommodation because they cannot find another one.
Since Monday April 22, a Cannes resident has decided to start a hunger strike. Danielle Trottini owns an apartment. More than a year ago, she explained to her tenants that she wanted to get it back to live there. They refuse, then a few months later stop paying the rent. 13 Heures met the tenants, a couple who live with four children in a three-room apartment. The father is an employee, his partner is a stay-at-home mother. Their situation is precarious and they have requested social housing.
Tenants are looking for social housing
For her part, the owner had to urgently rent an apartment. The tenants owe him more than 7,000 euros, and have filed an over-indebtedness file with the Bank of France. Only one in ten applicants access social housing. Danielle Trottini remains determined to continue her hunger strike. She continues to pay her rent of 1,200 euros to which must be added her mortgage of 1,000 euros.
