Quebec’s diplomatic representative will settle in Israel this summer

(Quebec) Quebec’s diplomatic representative is expected to settle in Israel for good in the coming weeks, as the conflict continues to rage in the Gaza Strip.

This was indicated by the Minister of International Relations, Martine Biron, in a parliamentary committee on Wednesday morning.

MP Guillaume Simard-Cliche, from Québec solidaire (QS), argued to the minister that Israel is under surveillance by the International Court of Justice for allegations of genocide.

Mme Biron replied that it is plausible, but that it is not a fact.

Remember that the CAQ government has been mired in an imbroglio since the announcement in August of the opening of a Quebec office in Tel Aviv, just before the Hamas attacks in Israel on October 7.

Mme Biron said at the time that she wanted to wait until peace returned before opening the office, but on Wednesday she suggested that the head of post would return to Israel this spring, but would have to settle down there during the course of next summer.

“There is enormous potential” in Israel in terms of trade, she argued in the parliamentary committee.
