The Court of Cassation confirmed, Wednesday April 23, the guilt of François Fillon, his wife Penelope and his ex-deputy Marc Joulaud in the fictitious jobs affair. On the other hand, it confirms neither the sentence pronounced by the court of appeal against François Fillon nor the damages. “The sentences handed down against [de François Fillon] and the amount of damages to be paid will have to be retried.”, writes the Court of Cassation in a press release. A new trial will therefore have to take place.
On May 9, 2022, the Paris Court of Appeal sentenced François Fillon to four years in prison, including one year, a fine of 375,000 euros and ten years of ineligibility. The Court of Cassation confirmed the sentences handed down by the Court of Appeal against Penelope Fillon and Marc Joulaud. The latter were respectively sanctioned with two years suspended prison sentence as well as a fine of 375,000 euros and three years suspended prison sentence.
