Federal Transport Minister Omar Alghabra said on Tuesday he had asked Transport Canada to investigate reports of “unacceptable behavior” on a recent Sunwing Airlines flight to Cancun, Mexico.
Videos of the December 30 flight shared on social media appear to show passengers wearing no masks, without distancing, dancing in the aisle and on the seats. In one video, passengers appear to be passing a large bottle of vodka.
According to some media, the plane had been chartered and some of the passengers were influencers and cast members of Quebec reality shows “Double Occupation” and “The Island of Love”.
Minister Alghabra recalled on Twitter that the risks of COVID-19 must be taken seriously.
Rena Kisfalvi, president of the local of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, which represents 1,000 Sunwing flight attendants, also called the behavior unacceptable.
Sunwing Airlines did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the situation.
