All over the world, there are more and more planes. Among these flights, those of low-cost airlines are particularly polluting. Indeed, their pollution has exploded in France in recent years.
In less than three decades, EasyJet, Ryanair and Transavia have conquered minds. Low-cost airlines are a must for many. They are certainly cheaper, but very polluting. In Orly (Val-de-Marne), almost one in two passengers flies with a low-cost airline.
Increasing pollution
Cheap companies are taking over and their pollution is exploding in our country. Transavia’s carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions jumped 90% in 2023 compared to 2019. Ryanair’s pollution increased by 48% in four years. When contacted, the companies concerned did not wish to comment. However, they are aware of the problem. In French skies, the champion remains Air France with seven million tonnes of CO2 last year, far ahead of Easyjet and Transavia. Environmentalists call for sobriety.
