“Our responsibility as politicians is not to add fuel to the fire, to pit people against each other”said Renew MEP Nathalie Loiseau on Friday April 19 on franceinfo, after the announcement of the summons by the police of the LFI candidate for the European elections, Rima Hassan, for “apology of terrorism”. “I talk about Palestine every day and I am not summoned by the police”said Nathalie Loiseau, responding to Rima Hassan who had asked if he was “still possible to talk about Palestine”.
“That candidates for an election were not able to hold a meeting, that shocks me”however assured the MEP, referring to the cancellation twice of a conference of the Franco-Palestinian activist and Jean-Luc Mélenchon in Lille. “But that they have chosen to associate themselves with an initiative which denies the existence of Israel, whose logo consists of denying the existence of Israel, that Rima Hassan uses slogans which consist of saying that Palestine will live and Palestine will win, as if the goal was to make Israel disappear, it’s disturbing.”
“I am as moved by the atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7, by the fact that we still have hostages, as by the disproportionate reactions of Israel”continued Nathalie Loiseau. “But I saw Rima Hassan insult Rachel Khan, I saw Jean-Luc Mélenchon compare the one who canceled his conference to Eichmann.”
